Daily Feline Prompt: Mirror, Mirror on the wall

Think of your blog as a mirror: what does it reveal? Consider your blog name, theme choice, design, bio, posts… what does every element tell you about yourself?

“That’s a clever photo Tabby.”

“Yes Mrs. Human, just something I pawed up quickly in my pawshop programme on my pawpad. After all it was William Paw Gates that invented the pawpad for his feline Aristotle Pawstein.”

“Of course, how could I forget. And what about your blog, what does it reveal?”

“Mrs. Human I am feline and therefore I exist as such. There are no revelations. Everyone treasures my high intelligence and don’t forget we were once…….”

“….worshipped as Gods?”

“How did you know I was going to say that?”

“You do mention in now and again Tabby.”

“Of course, do not forget our outlook on the human.”

“Which is?”

“We do tend to regard you as warmblooded furniture, but I borrowed that one from the computer, although I did make the suggestion.”

“Would you like to take a seat on my lap Tabby”

“Not at the moment, I have another programme, but I might partake in a rest at lunch time on the bed when you are taking a golden oldie sleep, so leave enough room for me as well.”

“Of course Tabby, no problem.

“And now to continue, this is one of my blogs. I think I will keep the name Tabby, as my real name, Empress Tabatha Twelve Lives would be too much to paw. The theme choice goes without saying, first of I, me and myself, followed by tuna fish, bird and mouse. I am still working on a design, but a pyramid with a figure of Bastet would suit my importance. My posts are quite versatile, usually all about me, what I eat and my sleeping places, as well as a few territorial battles with other felines which I usually win of course.”

“You win them? I thought you just ran for it.”

“But I am the fastest feline on the block Mrs. Human.”

“OK, through necessity probably.”

“For a piece of warmblooded furniture, you are being a little too talkative today Mrs. Human. I think my fans have now realised what an important feline blogger I am and I will definitely be up for feline blogger of the year. So where is the tuna fish?”

“Coming at once Empress Tabitha Twelve Lives.”

“You can call me Tabby Mrs. Human, we don’t want to overdo it now do we. I might get the reputation of a show-off.”

Daily Prompt: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Sometimes things happen as a surprise, almost as if they were intended. After my golden oldie sleep at lunchtime I awoke and did a mail check. I was more than pleasantly surprised, I was delighted. My friend, whom I stay with when in England, discovered a photo whilst visiting her cousin. We were both at school together for approxiamately 6-7 years and that was many years ago, roughly 61 years. I am on the left, my friend on the right and her late father in the middle. I cannot even remember where it was taken, but may have been a masonic dinner and dance as both her uncles were freemasons and we were often invited. I do not even remember the dress I was wearing, although a rough memory tells me it might have been pale blue. I had definitely been to the hairdressers for the occasion, hence the bouffant exploding hairstyle - it was fashion at the time. Blogs did not exist and neither did home computers. Mr. Swiss was impressed, he had never seen me so young, although it was probably 4-5 years later that that fateful day occurred in the office.

Anyhow, WordPress wants to know something, they want some revelations. I do not usually do revelations, not even in Facebook, but now and again part of my secret life might unfold. I have a blog name, don’t we all. I have many blog names actually, and if you knew them all the story of my computer life would probably unfold if you go surfing, but let us remain with Angloswiss. I was originally an Anglo, born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, but grew up in Bethnal Green, East London and spent the first 20 years of my non-blogging life there. I then moved over to Switzerland and remained for the past 49 years, so I became Angloswiss.

I do not have a theme choice, I blog according to what takes my fancy. I would add here that being a little lazy I tend to follow the daily Prompt suggestions, although these are lazy in themselves. Over the last couple of months I discovered the Topic Generator which has poured some fresh ideas into my keyboard.

I am not the Bill Gates computer lookalike and take the designs offered by WordPress, although I suppose I could let my imagination run amok and do something devastating like a graveyard theme, but again I am a lazy blogger and to be quite honest I do not intend sitting in my waking hours only at the computer, I have a non-computerable life. For those that follow my blogs, the members of my fan club, I do not have to go into details on my bio. Now and again the sordid details do leak through. I wonder if the Queen of England ever reads my blog? I wonder if she writes a blog and what her blog name would be? Perhaps Queenie, although too obvious. “Big Lizzie” might be her name (being an Elizabeth).

I really do not know about elements telling about myself. I don’t do self analysis. When you are 69 years of age you are glad that you can stand up after a night’s sleep and re-enter the world feeling as fresh as a 69 year old golden oldie can feel. I find that would be more for the others to judge. Some may think I write rubbish, others may acknowledge my blogging talents, once I even dared to insult a fellow blogger, although it was not my intention, she interpreted it as such. A shame really as I am sure under normal circumstances we could have been bloggable colleagues, but that’s the way the blogging cookie crumbles from time to time. Otherwise I am quite a peace loving person and only use my poisoned ink for my voting forms which will be in use at the end of the month, yes we will be voting in Switzerland.

I have to add something. My blogging partner in crime just reminded me about my vampire blogging friends. Yes Vlad and Morticia have become part of the dark side of my life. We often compare blogging notes on our excursions to the graveyards and at a drink at the local blood bank. Of course, not to forget the Jabberwock. My felines quite appreciate having a slithy tove in their wab now and again, not to mention a nocturnal visit from a frumerous bandersnatch wielding his vorpal sword gyring and gambling all over the place. Thanks Marilyn for reminding me. We golden oldies tend to have a short term memory.

And now to do something completely different. Just a moment, what did I hear. Oh, my mirror has a crack from top to bottom. Did I write something wrong?

WordPress Daily Prompt: Mirror, Mirror

Look in the mirror. Does the person you see match the person you feel like on the inside? How much stock do you put in appearances?

shadows,

“Good morning mirror”

“Oh you have returned for another look. Sorry, but I cannot do the impossible, although I try my best.”

“What do you mean? Today they are letting me out. I am showing myself on the street and in the supermarket, so do something. Make me irresistible, give me a glow of self-confidence and make a few highlights in my hair.”

“I am only a mirror, not a miracle worker. I can give you a few tips, but forget the irresistible, I can only do that if there is a basis available and that basis usually starts to fade after 20-30 years and let’s face it, you are not Snow White. I could probably do even more for the stepmother and no, do not begin with that “Mirror, mirror on the wall” stuff, that is for the fairy tales.”

“You are a mirror and should reflect all my good points. The silver lights in my hair, the wonderful misty blue of my eyes and of course my aquiline streamlined nose, one of my main trade marks.”

“You are asking a little much this morning, but I will do what I can. You are standing in the wrong place, just move a little to the right and there we have it: the sun is shining and reflecting the grey parts of your hair, almost turning them into silver.”

“Meaning I have to stand in the sun to emphasise my unique hair colour.”

“Sorry, but that is the way things are. Now to the eyes: I would suggest asking me again in the afternoon when the sleepy heavy lidded look has turned into something wide awake and ready to go. Your eyes were never the best feature after a night’s sleep.”

“Mirror you are running the risk of having a stone thrown at you.”

“And you are running the risk of seven year’s bad luck. OK?

“Ok, mirror continue.”

“Do you really want me to shower you with praises concerning your nasal feature. It is red and swollen at the moment.”

“I know it is not my usual smooth style, but I am recovering from a cold. My poor nose has been working overtime with sneezing and even breathing was difficult. If you had read my prize winning daily prompt blogs, you would have realised what this wonderful nose has endured over the past week.”

“Mirrors do not read, only reflections, and the words are reversed. We do not talk either, so this conversation is a figment of your imagination. You know what, put on your coat and go shopping. Your chances of meeting Brad Pitt or Mel Gibson are dwindling in any case at your age, but I am sure the butcher will smile when he gives you your pork chops. Give Mr. Swiss my best wishes and tell him I have not seen him for some time. He does not waste my valuable time looking at me expecting words of praise.”

WordPress Daily Prompt: Mirror, Mirror

Finish this sentence: “When I look in the mirror, I . . . “

Photographers, artists, poets: show us MIRRORED.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

When I look in the mirror, I think twice first of all. This is not a risk free operation and it depends on which mirror I choose. The mirror in the bathroom is quite a maze. Two mirrors, both mirrored on both sides An invitation to an experiment and if you have a photoshoppy programme (Ribbit – free at the moment but who knows) you can expand the mirrorness to infinity

Of course the bathroom mirror is the one that shares all my dark secrets. The first reflection in the morning could even cause a crack in the mirror if I give it an intensive “wrinkles round the eyes” glare. A teeth cleaning operation might cause a few tooth paste splatters here and there, especially with my super sonic electric tooth brush which supplies electronic impuses depending on how long and where the plaque removal should take place. Afterwards my teeth are shining and dazzling that I have to be careful that the mirror does not esplode in showing my reflection due to the aura around my face.

The trouble with a mirror reflection is that it is always reversed; the right is on the left and the left on the right. Try cutting your hair when looking in the mirror. First of all you spend minutes on finding the hair to be shortened. Of course you can see the trailing ends that you want to eliminate, but somehow the scissors do not find them, or perhaps you might even cut into a piece of skin instead of the hair. Bloodstains on the mirror are not difficult to clean away, but it is a messy job. Always have a cloth somewhere in a cupboard in the bathroom, or hanging on the towel rack, to wipe over the mirror when finished. It might be that the next person needing the mirror may not feel comfortable when looking into a mirror covered with finger prints, toothpaste stains, and as mentioned the odd blood stain or two. Water droplets can also cause problems, especially if they are splashed all over the mirror.

Combing hair is not so difficult, although it never seems to arrive where you want it to arrive. There are differences between females and males when mirror operations are performed, but I do not think I have to explain those problems.

The morning mirror treatment is completed and now we move to the long mirror, the one you need to cast a glance into before you enter the public eye. Are your trousers zipped up (not only a man problem these days), does that t-shirt suit the trousers and really those shoes look terrible; five minutes later, a complete dress change and another look in the mirror. Now it is much better, although you just cannot wear red shoes with blue jeans, it clashes, especially with the green t-shirt. Another visit to the wardrobe and another change of clothes and now we are ready, but wait a moment: pink lipstick with a red blouse? A renewed visit to the bathroom, a quick glance in the mirror and the lipstick removal is completed and another colour chosen. Just a final visit to the long mirror in the hall and everything is perfect. Where would we be without a mirror.

I remember a visit to the Versailles palace just outside of Paris. There is a hall of mirrors; along both sides of a ballroom. The mirrors are no longer new, probably from the 17th-18th century, and they have some stains caused by age. Yes, even a mirror gets older, not only the person looking in the mirror; it just seems that even in the days gone by mirrors were as important as today.

And all this happens when I look in a mirror. When my felines look into a mirror they just growl and sharpen their claws ready for a fight with the other feline staring back at them. Felines do not like being stared at. Their territory is being invaded.
