WordPress Daily Prompt: Turn, Turn, Turn

For many of us Winter is blooming into Spring, or Autumn hardening into Winter. Which season do you most look forward to?

Seasons come, seasons go
We remain as an observer

Chaffinch

Watching snow flakes falling
on cold surfaces
Complaining that nature has again
foiled the invention of mobility
with its ice and frozen tactics
Cars slipping on windowed streets
Alternative to take the train or bus
Birds have no choice
They are searching
for a crumb or a seed
anything to fill their emptiness
We can help

First crocus March 2009

Time passes
Bird feeders disappear
Feathered friends grow fatter
Searching for a mate
Life goes on and eggs appear in the nests
Nature springs to life
With every green shoot and bud,
A pregnancy is in the air
Blue, white, yellow, a kaleidescope of colour
The entrance hall of Spring flowers has arrived
Showers of rain tumble on the earth
Life awakens

Blackface sheep

Elastic days, expanding
Bird song greets you in the early hours
Street cafés to quench the thirst
Sweat evaporating from the pores
Welcoming the cool of an evening breath of air
Insects busy with their life’s purpose
Invading every crevice they discover
organisms predating organisms
Outlines of the circle gradually meet
Animals living an outdoor life
Warmth of the sun conserved in their bodies

Cemetery, Solothurn, Autumn colours

Seeds have fallen to earth

Buried and waiting
in expectance of better days
Nature’s dress slowly looses colour
Used and spent,
Time for a hibernation
Animals seek shelter for warmth
Store provisions
A disappearing act for some
Is that a new visitor, a cold breath
A seasonal year approaches its end

And you ask me my preference, I have none, each season has its values, has its ineptitude, that’s life

  1. That's beautifully written, Pat :-))

It echoes my sentiments, I have no favourite season, they all have good points and bad points.
