WordPress Daily Prompt: Roy G. Biv

Write about anything you’d like, but make sure that all seven colors of the rainbow — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet — make an appearance in the post, either through word or image.

Photographers, artists, poets: show us COLORS.

Rainbow over Feldbrunnen

I do not know who this Roy G. Biv character is or was, but I do now that Richard of York Gained Battles in Vain, which is more believable and instilled into my chid brain in school when learning the colours of the rainbow.

Are you sitting comfortably, then I will begin. The photo is not just a photo of a rainbow, there is more to it. I was on my way home from work and driving over the castle grounds just near to where I live. Being treasured by the local community I have a special permit to allow me to drive this road, although all village inhabitants have this permit if they apply for it.

So I was driving along and saw the rainbow and one of my lightening ideas struck. Always having a camera with me, I decided to pull up and take a photo. Stopping on the castle path just next to the stone edged gates and steps is no big deal, any fool can do it. The problem was that I had to change into the reverse gear to be able to park on the side. It was then that I saw a lady accompanied by two children who started waving. Thinking that is was a neighbour I returned her wave. Unfortunately it was a warning wave to tell me to stop. I did not stop and backed into a corner of stone. I was driving the Volvo 960 at the time which is a good solid car. Unfortunately even solid cars are not more solid than stone.

I was quite RED in the face, and the sun was still shining through the rain clouds with its ORANGE face: how to explain to Mr. Swiss that his dark BLUE Volvo had a scratch. If it had been a YELLOW car, it might not have noticed so much. I walked around the car, crossing the GREEN lush wet grass causing some mud to stick to my lovely new VIOLET shoes (it was fashion at the time) , to view the damage from another angle. In the meanwhile the heavens had decided to give another dose of rain; the sky had turned a darkened INDIGO tone, as it to say it was your fault. You should have been studying the road and not the rainbow. However, the sun appeared again and the sky brightened.

I took a glance at the car and found there was more mud than scratch, although it would have to be dealt with. In Switzerland you do not drive around with a large scratch on the bumper, although I was and still am of the firm opinion that that is what are bumpers are for. Undaunted in my quest, I saw that the rainbow was still present and took a few pictures.

It was only a few minutes from home. I parked the car in the underground community garage and took a few more photos of the small scratch on the car.

I decided it would be easier to explain to Mr. Swiss with a photo.

The Gates of Castle Waldegg, Feldbrunnen, Switzerland

It was the stone corner on the right hand side of the edging to the stairs which did the damage. What a stupid place to make a corner, it was inviting a car collision, especially when rainbow watching.

A Rainy Day

View from office window on a rainy day over Bellach

I think this photo from the office window just about sums up the day. It was windy, it was raining, totally unfriendly. The day started well - I forgot to set the alarm yesterday so 30 minutes were missing when I got up. A completely different modus operandi had to be applied, but I still managed to fit everything in - even a quick look on the computer - before driving off to work. We had two absentees at work, meaning the work for five was once again being spread around on the remaining three plus an apprentice. I just love those situations, you can really feel that you have done a good days work when you go home.

Rain in Langendorf

This was the view from the entrance to the supermarket at lunchtime when I was finished with the shopping and lunch. It was not just raining, it was pissing down (excuse the strong words, but at the time it was how I felt). When I got back to the office I made a stop in the canteen and took about 5 paper towels with me to dry my hair off. Not that the wet look bothered me, but when the water starts running down your nose and neck, then it is not pleasant.

But every cloud has its silver lining and on my way home I saw this from the car window on the private road at our local castle, so decided to take a photo. It is not every day you see something like this. Unfortunately by driving in reverse to get back onto the lane, I had a confrontation with a sharp stone ornament belonging to the castle steps which made a cut in the car bumper. I was not happy about this, but it could have been bigger. Understanding Mr. Swiss found it wasn't so bad and these things can happen. I suppose it is one of the problems you have to face when you are married to a photographer, computer freak, and cat lover.

The Day started with a Rainbow

Rainbow in Bellach

There I was sitting at my desk in the early morning wondering whether to get a coffee or do some work and my colleague says "don't you want to take a photo of the rainbow outside". Naturally I was wide awake and ready to go. It was miserable weather and I was surprised. I always thought that rainbows were caused by the sun shining through water drops. Well there was plenty of water around but I didn't see the sun. Anyhow I managed to get a couple of photos, although I have seen better rainbows.

Afterwards back to work, a nice quiet day - half of the office taken the day off to sleep out the carnival from last night and in Germany things were also very quiet. I think if there was an international European crisis during the carnival week, nobody here would be bothered. They would either be celebrating in the streets or in bed sleeping the whole thing off.

I have an appointment with a football match this evening. Switzerland are playing England in Wembley stadium in London. Our Swiss trainer, Kobi Kuhn, had a bit of a problem trying to sort out which goalkeeper he should choose (i.e. according to the newspapers and media). Pascal Zuberbühler is the "regular" up to now, but is 37 years old and so our trainer is putting a younger man in the goal - Diego Benaglio - 24 years old and not very much experience, so let's see what happens. I have lived 20 years in England and 40 in Switzerland, so who will I be supporting? Let's hope the best team wins (Switzerland??). For Switzerland it is a practice for the Europa cup for which unfortunately England did not qualify. Most of the Swiss players don't play in Switzerland in any case.

So let's hope the rainbow over our local village was a sign that Switzerland will win.
