Daily Prompt: Pour some sugar on me

What is your favorite sweet thing to eat? Bread pudding? Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies? A smooth and creamy piece of cheesecake? Tell us all about the anticipation and delight of eating your favorite dessert. Not into sweets? Tell us all about your weakness for that certain salty snack.

Blah, blah, blah - I told everyone all about my sweet side of life yesterday and above all on Pour some sugar on me - 15.03,2014, so i am now doing my best not to repeat myself.

Let us begin with a photo


Here you see the two sides of a life, the life of someone that just loves to eat sweet, preferably exclusive chocolates from the local confectionary shop, the ones they make themselves at a price that you allow to be given as a gift when a certain Mr. Swiss visit the local town.

I often ask does he prefer fat women, does he perhaps mean harm? No, of course not, he likes to have a happy wife. This wife is very happy with her Mr. Swiss, content, and would not change him for anything, especially if he brings me such wonderful expensive chocolates. I have an expensive taste, he knows. On the other hand/side you see the shadow side of a sweet life.

On the left at the top of the photo there is the special case I have for all my various accessories to fight the battle against the raising sugar percentage in my blood. No problem of course, you just have to do things in a sensible proportion. At least that is what my specialist doctor for diabetes Type II says. To continue: there is a box containing the tablets that I take/should take three times daily before meals. Unfortunately, being a golden oldie, my brain tends to forget things now and again, especially before breakfast, as it is still waking up. It may happen that I only take two tablets per day. To proceed there is the little machine at the bottom of the photo for measuring the amount of sugar in my blood. It is imperative to keep an eye on your sugar levels so they say. To complete the job there is a vampiric needle machine on the extreme left at the front. You insert the vampire needle, hold it against your finger and press. Blood is drawn and it is now you should be careful. and not smear it everywhere. It could be people get the wrong impression when they see blood stain.

Of course, I am a profi and my blood samples are saved for the small special, very expensive, piece of plastic, which absorbs the blood sample. It is inserted in the machine on the right, switch the machine on, and there you have it, the result of the amount of sugar in your blood. Here again, the golden oldie syndrome often plays a trick and I forget to measure the amounts. On the other hand, I feel fine, OK, no problem, so what’s the fuss. This week I measured my blood once again. Admittedly it has been at least a month, but I am still alive and breathing and enjoying every piece of cake or biscuit that comes my way. I was actually astonished, I am cured, healthy, I can enjoy my sugary pleasures without having a bad conscience. The result of my test was 6,6 which is quite good for early in the morning on a sober stomach. My top of the blood sugar hit parade is usually in the evening, continuing throughout the night until the early morning. Shall I tell the doctor that I am cured? I don’t think so, she never believes me and is convinced that I am just keeping things under control - if only she knew.

I now take my blood spattered book of blood sugar records and make an entry. It might be that I decide to visit the doctor for my three-monthly long term sugar indication test and she likes to see all those entries I make regularly. On the other hand my three monthly visits are now almost six monthly, but I have survived up to now. It is all a matter of routine

And now for another chocolate, or perhaps not, too much sugar is not good for you. so they say. Think I will wait until the evening when I might even partake in a glass of cola, diluted with mineral water of course. I really do not want to overdo it.


  1. I do rather like sweet things, so I fervently hope I never develop diabetes!!

    1. I still eat sweet stuff. You just have to keep it under control. It is the carbohydrate that does it. Pasta, rice, white bread - just eat it in normal quantities and do not overdo it.
