WordPress Daily Prompt: One-Way Street

Congrats! You’re the owner of a new time machine. The catch? It comes in two models, each traveling one way only: the past OR the future. Which do you choose, and why?

Storm clouds over Feldbrunnen

It was a dark and threatening sky that formed over our village. Something was on its way. Perhaps we will be attacked by extra-terrestrials, perhaps we will have the storm of the year. It might be a threat from somewhere. Now who do I see from the window approaching the door to my apartment?

“Hello Mrs. Angloswiss. I am bringing the newest discovery from the WordPress development center. Look, a time machine.”

“Hello Wordy, Oh I see. Just follow me to the storage cellar. Yes, down the stairs and open the door.”

“Oh, but there is almost no room. And why do I have to come to the storage cellar with our new and wonderful development.”

“That is the problem Wordy. My cellar is full of WordPress machines, so you can place this newest deiscovery with the other five time machines.”

“You mean you belong to another organisation that is copying our wonderful Daily Prompts?”

“No Wordy, these machines are from some previous WordPress daily prompts. Over the past year I have been travelling back and forth from the past to the future. Even H.G.Wells did not have such fun.”

“But this machine is something completely different Mrs. Angloswiss.”

“Tell me about it Wordy.”

You can only use it once and you can either go back or forth.”

“Big Deal Wordy, you mean that if I go back I can do yesterday’s daily prompt, and if I go forwards I might find today’s daily prompt contributions which are by some strange mishap not yet visible. Stop crying Wordy, these things happen, nobody’s perfect.”

“Mrs. Angloswiss, just tell me where you would like to go with this machine, that I can complete my successs form.”

“Your success form?”

“Yes we WordPress agents are judged by the success we have with our victims customers. We can tick the box with the results.”

“So I  have to go somewhere with this machine? Ok Wordy just to keep you happy. Let’s go.”

“Where are you going Mrs. Angloswiss?”

“I thought I would go into the past. When were you were a young Wordy. We could visit you  at the beginning of your WordPress career..”

“Oh, that is not such a good idea. It would be boring.”

I pressed the button, Wordy’s first day at WordPress and ……

“No Mrs. Angloswiss, do not do that.”

I arrived in a large hall. There was automatic assembly line. On the conveyer belts the arms of the assembly machine were working. At the beginning there was nothing. The first arm put a metal body on the belt, the second put eyes on the head and the third made ears. Eventually the insiders were completed with a small metallic brain and a digestive system. Eventually they had a name stamped on their private part where the sun does not shine. The names were all the same “Wordy”.

“Wordy you was assembled.? Stop crying, there is nothing to be ashamed of. At least you can eat food. But tell me are you always the same Wordy that visits me?”

“Sort of, we are a collective brotherhood. We have collective thoughts. Imagine it like a bee hive or a group of ants. We all work for the same goal.”

“And what is the goal?”

“To have happy, satisfied daily prompt customers that always come back for more.”

True I always come back for more, but there are some days when more just does not arrive and it is just a large unending one-way street to nowhere.

  1. Well, as I'm reading this I can make one of two assumptions. Either 1) When you arrived in Wordy's past, you wrote this post and attached a note for it to be published on this day (because it's a one-way trip you would be stuck in the past).....or Wordy brought the other machine (Forward) with him, and he used it to return you both to the present :-)) I love time travel!!
