WordPress Daily Prompt: Big Day Ahead

It’s the night before an important event: a big exam, a major presentation, your wedding. How do you calm your nerves in preparation for the big day?

I don’t talk about things like that all over the Internet. There is nothing much to say. On the night before I go to bed and sleep. Don’t we Tabby?

“Mrs. Human what important events do I have in my life? Perhaps a mouse might cross my path, but that is not anything I know in advance. If it happens and it is alive, eat it. These things are done on the spur of the moment. I will not get married (the vet saw to that) and the only major presentation is when tuna arrives on my plate Don’t ask such a silly question. Sounds like you are creating one of your daily prompts. They always want to know things.”

“True words Tabby. Who is really interested to know what I do the night before?”

“Felines sleep two thirds of the day and the other third we are looking for a sleeping place. This is definitely not a feline problem.”

I no longer partake in exams and I remember in those days I was so exhausted with learning, that I would collapse into bed the night before and sleep: I had no time to feel nervous.

I do major presentations daily, called the Daily Prompt if they arrive. Unfortunately lately they have not been arriving regularly. Now that is a cause for calming my nerves. I have my solution. I write to the WordPress Forum telling them of my problems, whilst I wipe the tears of frustration from my computer keyboard. I have been known to throw a tantrum, a fit of rage and stamp my feet. I wanted to tear out my hair, but unfortunately it is too short. These symptoms are now a thing of the past. If you have a regular occurrence in your life, it is no longer an exception and you realise that no-one bothers in any case. Writing a complaint or even a blog about this just bores people. It bores people at the WordPress headquarters, it even bores me. I still complain, no they will not win. I must admit when I arise from my golden oldie sleep, I glance at my iPad to see if the Daily Prompt has arrived. This is habit. How often have I been disappointed, so much relies on the job being done properly. I wonder if the WordPress staff have sleepless nights, tossing and turning, being worried that the great upload of the Daily Prompt will again fall into wasser and sink. Every day they have a big day ahead.

My wedding: oh yes I got married some years ago. Now that was a nifty thing, half an hour in a registry office given Swiss citizenship and sign on the dotted line. I remember the name of the guy that married us. It is a small town. I wonder if he remembers me? Probably not, but he was wearing a smart pin striped suit. He was then approaching retirement age, so if he is still around he would probably be more than 100 years old. My only problem was knowing when to say “Ja”. The ceremony was all in german and I was a beginner at the time.

Calming nerves? I have been through a few operations, I make regular shopping trips and cook daily, given birth twice and fly to London on average once a year. I no longer have nerves, they frayed out years ago.

Tomorrow I have a big day ahead. It is Sunday; but wait, I am retired. What difference does a day make?

  1. It depends on what the event is, but I do tend to overthink things and get worried for no reason. Just the way I am, I suppose.
